Lifson Linen was born in 1994, as a small business operating out of the Lifson family’s home garage. The late Eric Lifson understood the importance and health benefits of good sleep, and wanted South Africans to have the very best sleep experience. He believed that a superior quality down duvet and pillow had a key role to play in this. He travelled to Germany, France and the United States, where he apprenticed in the time-honoured European tradition of making down and feather bedding.

Eric Lifson believed that everyone should experience the superiority of a down and feather duvet or pillow. That desire, born from small beginnings, remains the ultimate purpose of Lifson Linen. We reject the culture of mass production. We choose to manufacture mindfully. We craft our products in small quantities, ensuring that duvet and pillow that leaves our workshop and comes into your home delivers on its promise of warmth, softness and comfort.

WHY HUNGARIAN GOOSE DOWN?
We travelled the world in search of the best possible down and feather fillings for our products. We found them in Hungary. Due to the region’s extremely cold Winter, geese in Hungary grow significantly larger down clusters. This means two things.

Firstly, larger clusters mean you need fewer clusters to fill a duvet, while still achieving the warmth and puffiness you would associate with a high-quality down product. Secondly, fewer clusters mean the duvet is superbly warm yet remarkably light at the same time. This warmth without weight is the true distinction of a quality duvet.

We have worked with Hungarian Goose Down for decades, from the raw material itself to the farmers who care for these geese. We can say, without reservation, that it is the best money can buy.

We are deeply invested in the sleep health of our customers. Every product in the Lifson Linen range is scientifically calibrated to offer warmth, softness and comfort. We supply leading hotels, guest houses, retailers, interior decorators, stylists and the public with the highest quality down and feather, and down alternative, bedding solutions.

Our raw materials are ethically sourced from reputable European farms, and are fully traceable to their farms of origin. Raw materials are washed, sorted, graded and sterilised to European Down and Feather Association standards (including DIN EN12934, EN12935,EN1164 and EN 12130). Our fabric casings comply with the OEKO-TEX Standard 100, and are certified free from harmful chemicals.

Unlike mass-production factories in faraway places, Lifson Linen is a proud, local small business. Our duvets, pillows and scatter cushion inners are all made in our factory in Cape Town by the Lifson Linen team – some whom have been with us since the beginning.
